Company Culture - Focusing on improving the human experience at work

A survey in November 2020 rolled out across our pharmaceutical company client’s office in Dublin revealed that only 38% of respondents felt that their employer was actively looking after their wellbeing.

By April 2021 this had risen to 76%. So, how did they achieve such a dramatic uplift in such a short space of time?

Accurately pinpointing the factors affecting wellbeing

One of the most important factors impacting the success of a wellbeing strategy is company culture and the existing work environment. At this company, an initial diagnostic (essential in the onboarding process with PepTalk) revealed that areas such as ways of working, number of meetings, and lack of personal connection due to remote working, was impacting employee wellbeing and engagement scores among this team of professionals.

Once the leadership team became aware of the problem they were able to start to tackle it, along with the support of PepTalk. PepTalk is a valued partner to this organisation providing data and insights, which makes it easier to get key stakeholder sponsorship.

Fostering Psychological Safety

In order to create new ways of working, the leadership team had to work on creating a safe place to speak up and did this by leading by example and also to make wellbeing a business priority they included it as one of the key strategic priorities.

They ran a series of “Get To Know Your Leaders” sessions enabled through the PepTalk platform. They included the PepTalk program on the quarterly people management forum to maintain momentum, solicit feedback and continuously adapt to needs.  They leaned into the PepTalk manager supports (the Leadership Lab and TeamTalks) to enable managers to proactively engage in team meetings around how they could create a culture of wellbeing, trust and support and real employee engagement.
